AUTONOMY is a disability rights organization dedicated to an intellectually honest debate on the various issues that affect people with disabilities. We provide the following links to several key organizations, some of whose positions we do not support. Our objective is to provide a full range of informational resources so that people with and without disabilities can decide on these issues for themselves.
The following are disability organizations with which AUTONOMY agrees on many issues, such as enhancing access to consumer-directed personal assistance services, assistive technology, transportation, and health care for people with disabilities. However, to the extent that some of these organizations oppose the right to death with dignity or a compassionate final choice for competent terminally ill individuals or other issues based on the autonomy of people with disabilities, AUTONOMY does not support such positions.
The following are organizations dedicated to the legalization of a compassionate final choice or death with dignity for competent terminally ill individuals. AUTONOMY supports the positions of these organizations on the right to die generally and physician assistance in the dying process.
The following disability organization - Not Dead Yet - is specifically dedicated to opposing the right to die with any human assistance, including the right to physician assistance in dying for terminally ill, mentally competent adults. AUTONOMY strongly disagrees with this organization's position. AUTONOMY strongly agrees with this organization on its positions opposing involuntary euthanasia and any other decisions against the will of the individual affected.
